MORE volunteers are being urged to take part in a theatrical spectacular that promises to bring the history of Britain to life.

The Eleven Arches Night Show in Bishop Auckland needs an extra 240 people of all ages to turn the epic-scale stage show into a reality.

So far 760 people have volunteered, including 700 who came to a special open day in June.

But show organisers are looking for 1,000 people to get the event off the ground.

A new series of try-out events are now planned for September where would-be participants will be matched to their ideal role.

The show promises to bring to life 2,000 years of British history as seen through the eyes of the North East, and will be acted out against the backdrop of medieval Auckland Castle’s St Peter’s Chapel on a seven and a half acre stage on the banks of the River Wear.

Claire Byers, director of marketing and communications for Eleven Arches said: “While we do expect most of the volunteers to come from Bishop Auckland, the chance to be involved is open to everybody. For example, we definitely want the people of Weardale and the surrounding area to feel they can sign up to this too.”

Available roles range from staffing the ticketing and booking team to sales and communications, ushers, costume, set and prop making, security, landscaping, merchandising, pyrotechnics, first aid and technical through to actors and performers.

Volunteers must commit to a minimum number of shows and professional training will be given for specialist skills.

The first ‘mix and match’ event to identify the roles best suited to those who have already signed up is being held between September 10 and 13
