A POP UP shop in Darlington’s Cornmill Shopping Centre is showcasing the work of North-East designers for a limited time only.

For the next six weeks the shop will offer a range of original designs and products from over 20 talented local artists and craftspeople, brought together by Angela Kingsley, founder of online store Maison Royale.

For many of the designers it will be the first time their products have been available to buy outside of their online stores, or at craft fairs and exhibitions.

Items on sale include hand-painted furniture and decorative home accessories, candles and organic skincare products.

Ms Kingsley, from Darlington, will be running the shop Monday to Saturday each week, and said: “This is such wonderful opportunity for my business and I wanted to share it with other local businesses who have a passion for originality.

“The Cornmill have been a great support to me whilst I’ve been setting up the venture.

“It’s really exciting to see such a wide range of wonderfully unique products showcased in a great space.

“Hopefully shoppers who visit the store will love the brands and the quality they see and will continue to support us online in the future.”

Ms Kingsley has been the driving force behind setting up the venture in the Cornmill centre and it is hoped if the pop-up shop is a success, Maison Royale may look to invest in a permanent premises in Darlington.

Other businesses involved with the shop include local artist Matthew Ellwood, well known for his ‘tower’ prints, and Darlington-based vintage company Totes Adore.

The shop, next to New Look, will be open until June 16.
