THROUGHOUT the 1960s and 1970s, the Teesside air show - held at the old RAF Middleton St George - attracted massive crowds who flocked to the airport to see the latest planes.
The airport's long runway meant Teesside was able to host aircraft that were unable to land at other UK venues.
The skies were filled with everything from state-of-the-art fighters to First World War era bi-planes, aerobatic stunt teams and helicopters.

As well as the RAF, the Royal Navy's fleet air arm also took part in the show. Carrier-borne aircraft showed off their folding wings and the Harrier VSTOL fighter showed off its crowd-pleasing ability to hover in mid-air.
Enthusiasts queued patiently to get a cockpit glimpse of the veteran bombers and Second World War fighters parked on the showfields.
In the 1970s, the show attracted sponsorship from ICI under the ICI petrol banner but enthusiasm for the event waned in the 1980s and the last air show took place in 1990.
