A MOTORCYCLIST from the North-East had two reasons to celebrate as he raced to victory in two events on his honeymoon.

Daley Mathison celebrated his honeymoon in style with a double victory at the recent Spring Cup Road Races, held at Oliver’s Mount, Scarborough, just days after getting hitched to his new bride, Natalie.

The couple, from Stockton, met two years ago at a British Superbikes event and tied the knot at Bannatyne’s Hotel, in Darlington, on Easter Monday.

As well as their friends and family, the couple were also married in the presence of two of the 23-year-old’s bikes.

“We met through the bikes, so it goes with the territory,” said Natalie, 34.

“The hotel thought I was joking at first, and when they met him they realised I was being serious.

“It was such a nice day – everything was perfect.”

Daley, who works as a builder’s labourer by day, started riding bikes aged 13 and has since risen through the road racing ranks to compete in high profile international race meetings.

In Scarborough, he won two of his races – beating Guy Martin in one – and came second in a third.

“On his practice run I was stood watching him and he went flying past. Somebody said is that Guy Martin? And I said, no, that is my husband Daley Mathison,” said Natalie.

“That was the first time I had used the word husband, and it felt amazing. I am really proud of him, although I was nervous as it was our honeymoon.”

With the racing season in full swing until the end of September, the couple are hoping to enjoy a belated second honeymoon at Christmas.
