RESIDENTS, businesses and visitors to a North-East seafront have been advised of planned roadworks over the Easter holidays.

In order to minimise disruption over the busy summer period, resurfacing works along a stretch of Whitburn Road in Seaburn, Sunderland, are scheduled to take place between Thursday April 16 and Sunday April 26.

Works on site at Whitburn Road to deliver highway improvements are beginning to take shape.

One of the final stages of the project, before completion of the works in May, will be to resurface the stretch of Whitburn Road, between the Morrison’s Supermarket and Marriott Hotel.

James Newell, Sunderland City Council's assistant head of streetscene said: "We have delayed the resurfacing to avoid as much of the Easter break as possible.

“However, it will be necessary to make a start to ensure that the work is completed ahead of the summer season, which is the busiest period for the seafront and a crucial time of year for local businesses.

“In order to minimise the impact as far as possible, we have agreed with the contractor that the resurfacing will be undertaken on a phased basis. During this period, traffic diversions will be put into place where necessary.”

No resurfacing works or diversions will take place on Saturdays and all other diversions will take place after the Easter holidays.
