LUNA the rabbit has regained her hop in time for Easter despite having to have her left hind leg amputated.

Owner Jose Langley is grateful to the vets at charity PDSA whose efforts managed to put the bounce back into her one-year-old pet.

Luna was taken to Gateshead PDSA Pet Hospital, which is funded by public donations, where Luna's bad break was mended using pins, but after several weeks it was clear the bones weren't knitting together and it wouldn't heal - so it was decided amputation was the only option.

But being a hind leg, there was concerned it would leave Luna unable to hop.

Josie, from Jarrow, Tyne & Wear, said: “I was very worried about how Luna would cope but she’s such a brave bunny and within a week of the operation she was hopping about all over the place! I can’t thank PDSA enough – they’ve been absolutely amazing. Luna means the world to me and I love her to bits.”

She doesn't know how the indoor rabbit managed to break her leg, she came home to find her dragging it behind her.

Vet nurse Cheryl Nash said: “ Luna is young and clearly had a strong will to live."
