A COUNTY Durham museum has today (Wednesday, April 1) reopened to the public.

Killhope: the North of England Lead Mining Museum near Cowshill, Weardale, is back in business following its traditional winter closure.

Tomorrow (Thursday, April 2) youngsters can try their hand at Easter crafts all day for a charge of £2 per child.

Children’s clay play sessions will also run from 1.30pm to 3.30pm on Wednesday, April 8. The cost is £3 per child.

Across the Bank Holiday weekend there will be an Easter quiz trail, activity sheets are available from the museum shop for 50p.

The museum’s resident blacksmith Chris Askew will be giving free demonstrations between noon and 4pm on Sunday, April 12, and on Friday, April 10, youngsters can learn about traditional Victorian spa boxes.

The boxes were created by miners as a way of displaying the unusual rocks and crystals they gathered.

Young visitors can use the museum’s extensive collection as inspiration for their own version. The session starts at 1.30pm and costs £8 per child to cover the cost of materials.

New displays are also now on display for visitors who want to tour the museum.

Booking is recommended for all sessions. Contact 01388-537505 or email info@killhope.org.uk.
