BIG-HEARTED Barnard Castle School pupils raised £481 for Brain Tumour Research on Friday (March 27) by wearing hats for the day.

The event was part of several charitable activities of the day as the students also presented a cheque for £565 to the British Heart Foundation after hosting a bring and buy sale on World Book Day.

The Year 6 pupils came up with the idea and encouraged the Prep School pupils to bring in their unwanted games and books to sell to the rest of the school.

They also created their own poster for the event which was designed by ten-year-old, Eva Pinwell-Price.

Director of Studies at the Prep School, Rebecca Robertson, said: “I am extremely proud of the way in which the pupils have pulled the organising of this event together.

“They have shown a great deal of maturity and independence and have left the staff with very little to do except purchase some books.”
