WOLSINGHAM School pupils had success with the nets earlier this month as they took part in the North-East Badminton Regional Finals of the Centre Parcs National Schools Badminton Competition.
This annual competition brought together some of the best badminton players from the regions’ Badminton Performance Centres with a school spokesman saying the standard of badminton was at its highest, being “fantastic to watch and even better to play in, giving our students invaluable experience at higher levels”.
Northumbria University’s Sport Central hosted the finals which saw a total of 64 of the North-East’s youngsters compete for the chance to represent their area at the national finals which are set to be held at Center Parcs, near Nottingham, on April 2 and 3.
Longridge Towers, from Berwick-upon-Tweed won the KS3 Boys competition while pupils from the Cramlington Learning Village won the KS4 Boys competition.
The Wolsingham KS3 Boys, which included Sam Burdis, Ben Hamilton, Jack Maddison and Matt Mercer, came fourth out of ten schools.
They were also the only team in their category to represent Durham County.
The school’s KS4 Boys, which was made up of Jossi George, Thomas Williams, Jack Haynes and Robbie Anderson also finished in fourth position out of the ten teams competing.
The school spokesman added the result was “a phenomenal achievement”.
