STUDENTS at Teesdale School were getting sporty today (March 12) ahead of Comic Relief tomorrow.

A team of 41 girls, aged between 11 and 14, took on the challenge of competing in 12 different sporting activities in 12 hours.

Starting at 8am, they took part in everything from football to jumping on a bouncy castle and are set to raise more than £400 after every girl was asked to raise at least £10 in sponsorship.

PE teacher, Tina Masterman, said it was the first time the school had organised the huge event, which took place at The Hub, in the town.

“All of the girls will try everything and have all been given a challenge to raise more than £10 but everyone has exceeded that,” she said.

“I had done this before when I was at university and I have wanted to bring it into the school for years but never quite got round to the organising but these are the sportiest girls we have ever had, they’re brilliant and sports mad.”

Year 9 pupil, Catherine Soulsby, 13, said the event was “really fun”.

“I want to do this again next year,” she said.

“It’s so important because it helps so many people but we’ve had lots and lots of fun and want to say thank you to Miss Masterman for letting us do it.”
