A CHARITY helping North-East veterans has reached an important milestone.

Veterans at Ease has helped more than 100 people cope with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) since it started in 2011.

The Durham-based charity helps veterans and their families battle the potentially devastating condition through free therapy sessions.

All staff and volunteers working for the charity were once beneficiaries of it and are committed to using NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) techniques to assist others in dealing with trauma.

CEO Garreth Murrell said in the past year, the charity helped 15 veterans move from being suicidal to holding down full-time employment.

He said: “Hitting our centenary by helping 100 people is an amazing achievement.”

The charity’s team are now committed to raising £200,000 in a bid to help more veterans access their services.

Veterans at Ease now has offices in Durham and Jarrow and is looking to expand to a third Durham site to accommodate a service run by their first female therapist.
