A MAN was taken to hospital after a two car collision on the A177 at Sedgefield last night.
Firefighters had to use cutting equipment to free the 44-year-old driver from the wreckage and he was examined by paramedics and a doctor who found his injuries to be non life threatening.
He was taken by ambulance to North Tees Hospital suffering back, neck and abdominal injuries. The Great North Air Ambulance also attended as a precaution.
One of the cars ended up down a short embankment at the side of the road.
Fire crews from Sedgefield and Newton Aycliffe and a special rescue unit from Bishop Auckland arrived following the accident shortly after 4pm. The driver of the other car was already out on their arrival.
