A FUNDRAISING campaign for a vital heart scanner will be launched this weekend in Boots stores throughout the North-East.

Up to £500,000 is needed to upgrade James Cook University Hospital’s specialist scanner and Rotary Clubs across the area are supporting the appeal to fund the work.

Darlington’s Rotary Club will join 20 others across 40 North-East Boots stores selling raffle tickets from this Friday.

Top prizes include a Skoda Citigo car, plus hotel and spa breaks.

David Hayward, Darlington Rotary Club coordinator for the appeal, said: “Anyone in our area who suffers a heart attack is immediately examined by this potentially lifesaving scanner,”

“Unless it is equipped with new start-of-the-art software, fewer patients will be able to use it and the hospital risks losing its top class heart consultants.”
