CHARITY fundraiser Tony “The Fridge” Morrison is to go on trial charged with assault.
The 50-year-old grandfather has made headlines by raising more than £100,000 for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation by doing endurance runs and marathons carrying a 42kg refrigerator strapped to his back.
He appeared at Sunderland Magistrates Court yesterday (Monday, March 9).
Morrison – full name Anthony Phoenix-Morrison - of Jutland Avenue, Hebburn, South Tyneside, denied four charges of assault in Sunderland on June 16 at an earlier hearing.
He has also pleaded not guilty to using violence to secure entry into the home of the alleged victims, knowing that someone present there was opposed to his entry.
The trial had been due to take place yesterday but will be held instead on September 2 at the request of Mr Morrison’s solicitor.
Mr Morrison was bailed on condition he does not contact prosecution witnesses or go to the home of the alleged victims.
