A CHARITY is offering free neutering of bull breed dogs whose owners are receiving benefits.

Throughout March, the Dogs Trust is offering to neuter bull breed dogs (excluding French and English bulldogs) for free if their owners are in receipt of means tested benefits.

Almost every day, bull breed and bull breed crosses are handed in to re-homing centres across the country.

A spokesperson for the charity said: “Neutering removes the significant health risks associated with pregnancy as well as the possibility of potentially fatal womb infections. It also reduces or removes the risks of some cancers in both male and female dogs.

“It may encourage calmer, more predictable behaviour making the dog a more suitable family pet and it can help reduce aggressive and unwanted sexual behaviour.

“Neutering also prevents the unnecessary costs of unplanned pregnancies and raising puppies, plus by preventing accidents caused by unruly behaviour, costly vets’ bills can be avoided.”

Dogs can be neutered at any age from about four months.
