A PHYSICS graduate has been honoured for his voluntary work.
Tim Wiles, who recently graduated from Durham University, was awarded the 2014 Institute of Physics (IOP) Branches Prize at the IOP North East Branch annual dinner.
The prize recognises IOP members who have made exceptional contributions within an IOP branch to enhance the promotion of physics.
Mr Wiles, who recently moved to Oxford, helped found the Durham Cafe Scientifique and was involved with careers and jobs fairs.
Presenting the prize, IOP North East Branch chair Richard Hornby said Mr Wiles had a passion for physics and communicating it.
“His enthusiasm knows no bounds as he has striven to take the communication of physics and the work of the IOP to new audiences in and around the North-East.”
The Branch also presented an award for Outstanding Commitment to Outreach to Geoffrey Heywood and ten Commitment to Outreach awards.
The dinner was held at the Ramside Hall Hotel, near Durham, on Saturday, February 28.
