MODEL railway enthusiasts will show off their work with a display of steam and diesel engines.

The GL5 Association exhibition at Locomotion: The National Railway Museum at Shildon will be the group’s first ever display of five inch gauge railway models.

The exhibit will draw on British mainline layouts for inspiration and will feature both running steam and diesel engines.

Pam Porter, events officer at Locomotion, said: “I’m very excited to welcome back the GL5 Association to Locomotion.

“The event is now in its third year and has previously proved very popular with both families and railway modellers.

“The layout means that visitors experience the museum in a very different way and it is great for small children to see these locomotives at their own height.

“It’s a great opportunity for railway modellers to see the extensive layout.”

Rail enthusiasts can take part in driver experience sessions on the standard gauge guest locomotive Joem, which is on loan from the North Eastern Locomotive Preservation Trust.

The driver experience activity runs on Saturday, March 28, and Sunday, March 29, and must be booked in advance.

Bookings can be made on 01388 771439 or locomotion@nrm.org.uk

The free GL5 Association display will run from 10am to 5pm between Friday, March 27, and Sunday, March 29.
