THE family of a baby born seriously ill are holding a fundraising night to raise money for the hospital which helped to save her life.

Layla-Rose Kelly, of Hylton Road, in Ferryhill, was born last November with an infection caused by complications with the birth.

She was born at the University Hospital of North Durham to Michelle Harwood and Liam Kelly with a lung infection and a punctured lung.

She was rushed to the Freeman Hospital, Newcastle, where she was treated until she was allowed to go home on Boxing Day.

Layla-Rose still has problems but is at home on with her parents plus brother and sister Savannah and Blake Stephenson.

Her family are holding a fundraising event in aid of the hospital’s Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at Ferryhill Station Working Men’s Club.

Cheryl Kelly, Layla’s great cousin, said: “She was born with all sorts of complications and it was a really good Christmas present when she came home.

“We are very grateful for the work the staff at the Freeman Hospital did and we can’t bear to think about what could have happened.”

The fundraiser is on Saturday, March 7, with family fun between noon and 5pm and an adult event from 7pm to midnight.

Entry is £2 for adults on the door and free for children.
