ANGEL of the North Katie Cutler has helped a disabled mother-of-three get the mobility scooter she desperately needs.

The 21-year-old beautician, who launched the online appeal that netted £330,135 for visually-impaired Gateshead mugging victim Alan Barnes, used her new fame to obtain the machine for Ehlers–Danlos syndrome sufferer Danielle Rowland.

Ms Rowland, 27, of Barnsley, South Yorkshire, who lives with partner Dean and has three children, Jamie, eight, Jade, six and Melody, three, struggles with routine tasks as she suffers bad joint pain and has Fibromyalgia, which makes her skin hurt if she is even softly touched.

She sought help from Ms Cuitler, of Greenside, near Gateshead, who was moved by her plight.

She rang scooter suppliers to see if anyone could offer a discount on a machine but The North East Mobility Warehouse in South Hetton, County Durham, offered to donate one.

Ms Cutler said: "They simply said, “does Danielle want a red or a blue one? I was shocked, as it's worth £1,800.

"I was so happy and emotional, it couldn't have happened to a nicer person, I am over the moon."

Ms Rowland, who is now able to drop her children at school and plan a birthday party for her daughter, is overwhelmed.

She said: "I am utterly flabbergasted, I have never received anything so generous.

"This will change my life, my partner's life and my children's in so many ways.

"Words cannot describe how grateful I am."

Jolene Brumby, manager of the North East Mobility Warehouse, said: "We were blown away by the generous work that Katie did for Alan and wanted to show our support.

"When Katie rang me I was touched by the story about Danielle and felt like we could help.”

Tomorrow evening (Friday, February 13) the Assembly Rooms in Newcastle hosts The Alan Barnes Presentation Ball, a charity event with live music and auctions.
