TWO aircraft have landed safely after emergencies were declared on separate flights.
This morning’s Jet2 flight from Newcastle to Prague diverted to Leeds/Bradford as a precautionary measures after an “operational issue” on board.
A spokesman for West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service told the Yorkshire Post that they had received reports of smoke in the cabin caused by overheating brakes.
Thirteen fire engines met the plane as it landed, but there was found to be no fire on board.
A spokesman for Jet2 said: “Today’s flight LS509 from Newcastle to Prague diverted to Leeds Bradford Airport this morning as a precautionary measure due to an operational issue.
“The aircraft has landed safely and customers will be transferred to an alternative aircraft so they can continue their journey to Prague as soon as possible.
“We apologise to our customers for the delay to the start of their holiday but their safety is of paramount importance to us.”
Meanwhile, Air France’s City Jet service into Newcastle International Airport declared an emergency but has now landed safely.
The emergency situation came about on Air France plane that was travelling from Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris to Newcastle Airport. The flight, AF1058, landed safely at Newcastle at 11.20 this morning, which was later than its scheduled arrival time of 11.00.
