POLICE have named the 11-year-old child who was killed after being struck by a bus in Newcastle.
Nathan McStay of Benwell, Newcastle, died after the collision with a Stagecoach number 38 bus in Wickham View Road, Newcastle, at 3.39pm yesterday (Wednesday, February 11).
"Police and paramedics attended and the pedestrian, an 11-year-old boy, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene," said a spokeswoman for Northumbria Police.
Flowers were left at the scene of the accident alongside touching messages to Nathan, who is believed to be a pupil at Excelsior Academy in Newcastle’s West End.
City councillor for Benwell and Scotswood, Cllr Hazel Stephenson said: “I’m sure people at his school will be shocked and devastated.
“It’s a terrible situation for the family and everyone concerned this loss of young life.”
A spokesman for Stagecoach said the company is helping police with inquiries and that safety is its “absolute priority”.
Inquiries are ongoing into the collision and anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact police on 101 ext 69191 quoting reference number 689 11/02/15.
