CHILDREN have been learning how to look after themselves online as part of Safer Internet Day.

Pupils at Bournmoor Primary School, in County Durham, have been learning to think before they click, under the title ‘Let’s create a better internet together’.

Younger children heard the story of Digi Duck’s Big Decision and discussed the impact of sending unpleasant messages to others online.

Older pupils watched a video about the impact of cyber bullying, took part in role play exercises and made posters emphasising the safety messages.

Laura Snowdon, the school’s head eacher, said: “In the ever changing world of technology, children are faced with so many ways to connect online.

“Although this offers so many opportunities for learning, it also brings dangers.

“At Bournmoor Primary School we want our pupils to embrace new technologies but always remember to be e-safe when they use them.

“By teaching pupils to always think before they click and tell if they have any concerns we continually build their e-safety resilience.

“Although we cannot predict the future in terms of the technology pupils will access in the years ahead, we aim to make e-safety as intrinsic to them as looking both ways before crossing the road.”
