A NEW generation of Rotarians have joined the Barnard Castle movement after launching an InterAct club at Teesdale School.

The club, formed of pupils aged between 12 and 18, was officially recognised by the Barnard Castle Rotary Club yesterday (January 13), when the club’s president elect, Ann Barmby, presented the new committee with a certificate.

Year 12 pupil, Emma Turner, is the first president of the club along with vice president, Bridie Fitzgerald and secretary, Jack Parker.

And although it currently has only six members, it has already raised more than £350 for the teenage homelessness charity SASH.

Miss Turner said: “I think the fact that it’s a group ran by young people for young people makes it really unique.”

Mr Parker added: “It’s really interesting especially because we get to help people in the local area.”

The club meets at school every Tuesday lunchtime and any new members are welcome or you can email them at bcinteract@outlook.com
