A WOMAN whose late husband compiled a book of stories about his time as a supply teacher has had the book published in his memory.
Mandy Griffin, from Harmby, near Leyburn, said her husband Ken was a talented writer, artist and musician, and was well-known in the Dales for his abilities.
He started writing the book in the 1990s and it included humorous tales about his work, stitched together with a fictional take on his life with a room-mate in a Harrogate flat.
Mrs Griffin said: “There is quite a lot of gentle humour in it, cartoons, and a little bit of romance as there is a story based on how we met.
“It is a lovely book and we have always liked it but when he was alive we never got around to publishing it.
“When he died three years ago I wanted to make sure his talent was not forgotten, and I wanted to do it for his family – I don’t care if I lose money on it I’m just pleased to have a copy of it.”
The book was released last month and has had some local interest already, but Mrs Griffin hopes that others will enjoy the story.
She added: “His son and daughter are very pleased with it, as are the rest of his family – we are all very proud of him.”
Ken Griffin’s book, Please May I Leave the Room? A Lighter Glance at Teaching in Yorkshire 1950 – 1980, is available from Castle Hill Bookshop, Richmond.
