A MAN armed with a machete walked into a tanning salon in North Shields tonight (Friday, January 9) and demanded cash - before making off.
No-one was hurt during the armed robbery - which happened at 7.45pm at the Sun Lounge on Verne Road - but staff were left shaken.
The offender is described as male, 5ft10 of slim build and was wearing a black jacket with blue jeans and white trainers.
Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone in the area and who may have seen or heard anything suspicious to contact them.
Additional uniformed police patrols are in the area to carry out enquires and to reassure local residents.
