POLICE have made a fresh appeal for witnesses to a knifepoint burglary.

An elderly man was threatened with a knife during a break-in at his home on Lyons Avenue, Easington Lane, near Houghton-le-Spring, at about 7pm on Monday, December 15.

The pensioner was unhurt, but shaken. The intruder made off empty handed.

Police believe the burglar was wearing camouflage clothing and may have been hanging around the area before the burglary.

Detective Sergeant Simon Auty said: “We’re continuing to make enquiries into this burglary and are making a new appeal for anyone with information to come forward.

“Thankfully the occupant wasn’t injured but he was left extremely shaken.

“I’d urge anyone who was in Easington Lane on the afternoon of Monday, December 15, who saw anything in this area to contact police.

“We’re particularly keen to hear from anyone who saw a man dressed in camouflage clothing in the area.”

Any witnesses are asked to call Northumbria Police on 101, extension 69191, quoting reference 1022 151214, or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800-555-111.
