A COUNTY Durham train station will become a portal to the North Pole this month, as The Polar Express rides return to Weardale.

Inspired by the hit Warner Bros. film, The Polar Express, and book by Chris Van Allsburg, the officially licensed train rides are returning to Weardale Railway in Stanhope, during November and December 2014.

Set to the motion picture soundtrack, pyjama-clad passengers will relive the magic of the story and see their favourite characters come to life as they are whisked away aboard The Polar Express.

During the journey, the Conductor will punch tickets, jolly dancing chefs will serve hot chocolate and cookies, and passengers can also enjoy a sing song and a special reading of the Van Allsburg classic. At the North Pole, Santa will board the cosy train to greet the children and will give a special sleigh bell to all those who believe.

Ed Ellis, president of British American Rail Services, which operates Weardale Railway, said: “We’re excited about the continued popularity and success of The Polar Express experience in the UK.

“We have delighted children and their parents and grandparents at locations across the US for years, and the story’s messages of hope and belief are ideal for the holiday season.”

The Polar Express train ride schedules include afternoon and evening departures throughout November and December and prices start from £22 per adult and £17 per child.

Advanced booking is required and tickets are still available to buy for mid-week and Sunday rides. To book, or for more event information, contact 08000-232383 or visit UKPolarExpressRide.com
