POLICE investigating a robbery at a newsagents are continuing to appeal for information.

The incident happened just after 6am on Saturday morning (November 8) at Max & Sons in Eden Vale, Sunderland.

A man went into the store and threatened staff with a machete. He made off empty-handed.

A member of staff suffered a minor hand injury during the incident.

Acting Detective Sergeant Nick Lawrance said: "We're carrying out enquiries into the robbery and are keen for anyone who has information about the identity of the man responsible or any information that may help with our enquiries to get in contact.

"The robbery happened early on Saturday morning at a time when people may have been out walking dogs or going to the newsagents to get a paper. They may have seen something that at the time didn't seem out of the ordinary and we'd ask them to think back.

"This was a terrifying incident and while the offender didn't make off with anything, a 63- year-old elderly shopkeeper was injured."
