THE CURTAIN has fallen on a weekend of world-class theatre.

The Jabberwocky Market ended today (Sunday, October 5) after entertaining crowds across Darlington with an eclectic mix of shows.

The festival - which began on Thursday, October 2 - staged a number of productions in venues across the town, bringing high-calibre but small-scale theatre to mixed audiences.

On Saturday afternoon, the festival took to the streets of Darlington, with youngsters invited to join in with a host of arty activities in the market square’s Fun Palace.

Family friendly entertainment also came in the form of Fish/Girl, an adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid, the wintry fairytale Solas Fae and intimate performances of The Incredible Book Eating Boy.

Audiences at Polam Hall School’s Liddiard Theatre were left spellbound on Saturday night by the multi-award winning Ballad of the Burning Star, the semi-autobiographical tale of a young Jewish boy growing up in occupied Palestine.

The festival – named in honour of Croft-born author Lewis Carroll – was created by a team from the North-East, including producers from Darlington.

This weekend’s festival marked its third return to the town.
