A CHEF has returned to his roots to open his first restaurant after learning his trade in London.

Neil Flockett launched The Cornerhouse bar and kitchen, in Hope Street, Crook, about five weeks ago and has not looked back since.

The burger and steak eaterie is already proving popular and Mr Flockett hopes his venture has a bright future.

He employs five members of staff and he has not ruled out taking on more people once the business gets established.

He said: “I learnt my trade in London but I am from Crook so I thought what better place to set up my business.

“I know the market place here and I think I know what people want. We have only been up-and-running for five weeks but it has been a really good start and people seem to like it.”

He added: “I know we face challenges but it really seems to be paying off at the moment.”
