AN American opera singer who has performed for Bill and Hillary Clinton will sing at a First World War memorial concert in the region this autumn.

Emily Cobley will perform a selection of popular war songs at the concert at St Joseph’s Church in Tow Law, County Durham, at 7.30pm on Saturday, October 18.

An internationally renowned opera singer, Ms Cobley’s career highlights include performances at the New York Metropolitan Opera, her debut at Carnegie Hall in New York in Mozart’s Mass in C Minor and singing for former US president, Bill Clinton, and his wife, Hillary.

In Tow Law, Ms Cobley will be accompanied by Bob Chilton and the organisers are promising a night to remember.

As well as the music, the concert will feature poetry readings from famous war poets, including Wilfred Owen, and light refreshments.

Tickets cost £5, with all proceeds to the St Joseph’s Tow Law Organ Restoration Appeal.
