A MAN has been ordered to pay a police officer £100 compensation after slamming a door on his foot.

The officer had gone to Danial (CORR) Howe’s home in Shildon after reports of a domestic argument, magistrates in Newton Aycliffe were told.

Howe answered the door and the officer managed to wedge his foot in the opening, prosecutor Joanne Hesse said.

But Howe, 24, of Adamson Street, then told the officer he was going to close the door before slamming it against the officer’s foot, the court heard.

Ms Hesse said officers arrived at the house at about 11.30pm on July 5 after being called by Howe’s partner, with whom he has two young children.

Ms Hesse said the officer was left with pain in his foot and ankle caused by the door.

As he was arrested Howe said he should not have done it and apologised, the court heard.

Nick Woodhouse in mitigation said Howe, who admitted assaulting a police officer, told the officer he was going to close the door.

In a report from the probation service, the magistrates were told Howe and his partner had both been drinking at a birthday party before getting home and arguing.

Magistrates gave Howe a six month community order with supervision and ordered him to pay £100 compensation.
