In a good week for musicians new to me, here’s another I’d highly recommend: the Denver-based saxophonist and writer Jim Stranahan.
This mix of tracks by his 11-piece band and a smaller group is full of imaginative writing and arranging and first class playing with Stranahan’s originals sitting well alongside Brubeck, Rollins and Parker.
