Tearaway banned from part of his home town

A YOUNG tearaway has been barred from part of his home town after being involved in a catalogue of trouble.

Liam Gibbon was made the subject of a criminal anti-social behaviour order (crasbo) when he appeared in court.

The 22-year-old narrowly avoided a prison sentence, but a judge imposed restrictions on his movements.

He is not allowed to stop in Shaftoe Way in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, after bother in nearby Neville Parade.

In November last year, the lout pulled a disabled man from his car after demanding money from him.

Teesside Crown Court heard that Gibbon - "going ballistic" - shouted and swore at the man and his shocked wife.

His previous convictions include violence as a juvenile and damage, and public order two years ago.

David Lamb, mitigating, said Gibbon has not been in trouble for two years, and had turned over a new leaf.

Mr Lamb said his client had enrolled on a welding course, and was looking forward to a worthwhile life.

Gibbon left school without any formal qualifications and spent time "drifting and drinking", said Mr Lamb.

"That's no longer a feature of his life," said the barrister. "He is doing something positive and trying to do something constructive.

"His father is extremely shocked that his son has behaved in the way he has. He doesn't recognise the young man described here.

"He has come extremely close to being locked up, but we would ask Your Lordship to give him a final chance."

Gibbon, of Reeth Place, Newton Aycliffe, was given an eight-month suspended prison sentence.

The term was suspended for two years, and Gibbon was also put under probation supervision for two years.

Judge Simon Bourne-Arton, QC, told him he would have been jailed had he not turned around his life in the last eight months.

He said he had "ruined" the life of the disable victim, who is now afraid to leave his home alone.

Put him in prison "he isn't a young tearaway" he is the product of a slap on the wrist justice system, they should be made to join the armed forces and learn some discipline and respect for ppl or go to prison and take away his freedom like he took the disabled persons, this country is becoming a joke, it's all about the criminals human rights and just sod the victims

If it wasn't actually him, did his barrister not think on to mention this as part of his defence? Think I might have done if it was me.

Oh and where's the lad who did do it then? Still going unpunished while looking for his next victim?

Charmaine,

The problem is you tend to get lumped together with the group you associate with.....Hopefully he has learned a valuable lesson in life. If a few negative comments on here and a slap on the wrists are all he gets he hasn't done too badly has he? Maybe you and your brother could do something positive for the area?
Tehn you will make the judge luk a rite mug wudnt ya???

think twice says...

I wonder how much his barrister really knows about the everyday life of his client and what was the cost to the public purse for expressing his considered judgement on the "young" tearaways behalf!

This is ridicules!. I was there and clearly admitted that from the start and did argues with his wife but never did one thing to the man am not sick or evil and that certainly is. The police turned up with a description of (navy blue jeans Gray tracksuit coat and air max trainers) which if you think about it how many 21 years old lads don't own a outfit like that?. But because 5 witnesses seen me there shouting at his wife with a bunch of lads it looked really bad and made me look guilty which I understand but this is embarrassing and pathetic. It was a old friend of mine who really did it who had the same outfit and known for things like that but i couldn't tell police because no one would trust me and I would fall out with my friends so I took the blame but I think the papers make things sound a million times worse and people need to open there eyes and realise that people get the blame for things that they never did every single day
