A BRASS band will tune up for the biggest day in their calendar by performing for patients at a hospice.
Members of Durham Miners’ Association Band are preparing for their annual performance at the Big Meeting on Saturday, July 12.
But a week before they play to thousands at the Miners’ Gala, the band will be warming up with a selection of tunes at the annual summer fair held at St Cuthbert’s Hospice, in Durham.
Many of the hospice’s patients come from mining families, so organisers were keen to get the band along for the day.
The summer fair takes place in the beautifully-kept grounds of the hospice in Park House Road, Durham on Saturday, July 5 from 11am to 2pm.
It will feature a display of vintage bicycles, including a classic penny farthing, as well as raffle and tombola stalls, tasty food, plants, books and gifts for sale.
Admission is by donation to the hospice, which needs to raise around £1.3m every year to continue offering its services to local people.
