DANCING sheep will entertain visitors to an eco-farm this weekend.

An open day at The Clervaux Trust, near Darlington will feature live entertainment in the form of The Sheep Show, a humorous display about wool.

The dancing sheep form part of the day’s entertainment, alongside arts and crafts workshops and the chance to try out knitting with giant needles made from garden forks or other needles created from household objects.

The annual open day, now in its fifth year, is arranged to give visitors an insight into the work done at the Trust, which works with some of the most disadvantaged and disenfranchised young people in the North-East.

The charity works with individuals excluded from school, with learning difficulties, mental health issues or complex social needs in a bid to help them achieve their potential.

The young people are looking forward to Sunday’s event, according to event organiser and textile tutor Lorne Helliwell.

She said: “Everyone’s really looking forward to it, it’s been a lot of hard work putting it together but we know it will be wonderful.”

Resident manager Vikki Lazenby added: “It enables individuals to develop their vocational, personal and social skills to make a positive contribution to society and it gives them a sense of purpose.”

The open day will take place on Sunday, June 15 from 10am until 4pm at The Clow Beck Eco-Centre on Jolby Lane, Croft-on-Tees.
