TWO North-East artists have been short-listed for a top prize in a prestigious wildlife exhibition.

Jessica Irena Smith of Consett, County Durham, and Simon Griffiths, of nearby Castleside, will both be displaying work in the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation’s (DSWF) Wildlife Artist of the Year exhibition at London’s Mall Galleries.

Wildlife artist David Shepherd, who launched the competition in 2008 to raise awareness for endangered species, said: “From the judges’ point of view the drama and technical excellence in all the work was quite breath-taking.”

Over 150 shortlisted art works - from established and exciting new artists - will be on display and for sale in the main gallery.

DSWF chief executive Sally Case said: “We’re bringing together a hugely exciting selection of artists and media for this, our seventh Wildlife Artist of the Year."

The top prize is £10,000. Entry is free from 10am to 5pm from Tuesday June 3 to Saturday June 8.
