A TOWN will be transported back to the days of heroic knights and medieval maidens this weekend.

Now in its 44th year, Sedgefield Medieval Fair regularly attracts more than 1,000 people from across the region.

This year, the fun begins at 10am on Saturday, May 17, when the children's tableau begins its journey to the green.

This will be followed by a host of traditional activities throughout the day, including combating knights, courtesy of The Dawn of Chivalry, magnificent falconry displays, a tug-of-war contest and a performance by Acle Living History.

Morris and other dancers will perform and there will be a fancy dress competition, face painting, Punch and Judy shows on the green and at Ceddesfeld Hall Park.

Other highlights will be craft and food stalls, fairground rides, a raffle and a chance to climb St Edmund's Church tower.

Proceeds from the event go towards the upkeep of Ceddesfeld Hall, a Grade II listed former Rectory and home of Sedgefield Community Association, which organises the event.
