SIXTH form students are hoping for an upset when they take to the Heritage Park pitch for an annual charity match against their teachers.
The annual fundraising game featuring staff and pupils from Bishop Auckland College is being held to raise funds for the college’s four chosen charities for this year.
It will benefit the Great North Air Ambulance Service, the Butterwick Hospice, Cancer Research UK and the college’s student hardship fund.
Natalie Davison, principal and chief executive, said: “We’re very grateful to Bishop Auckland Football Club for allowing us to hold our charity football match at Heritage Park.
“Hopefully the increased profile this will give us will enable us to raise even more funds for these very worthy causes.
“I’d like to encourage as many people as possible to come and support the players.”
Former top flight referee Nigel Miller, who was a linesman at the 2003 FA Cup Final between Arsenal and Southampton at Wembley, will officiate.
Mr Miller, of Esh Winning, who saw Robert Pires score the only goal of the cup final to give Arsenal a 1-0 win, has volunteered his time.
The mascots are Jayden Blenkinsopp, Jake Wilkinson, Misha Jo Bennett, Tamika Foster, Luke Bell and Logan Nicholson and they attend Cockton Hill Infant School, Bishop Auckland.
This the first time that the match has been played at Heritage Park and it kicks off at 6pm tomorrow (Friday, May 16).
Entry is £1 on the turnstiles.
