A FREE family fun day will be held on Saturday (May 17) with a host of activities for adults and children.

The event has been organised by Consett-based police officers and the safer neighbourhood unit team.

It will begin at 11am at the Sports and Social Ground, in Langley Park.

Local emergency services will be present.

Durham Constabulary's community vehicle will carry out bicycle security marking and the Stray Aid charity will microchip dogs free of charge.

PCSO Debra Robson said: “In the past we have received reports of incidents in Langley Park in relation to young people using cannabis and behaving in an anti-social manner.

“However, there are now three youth groups engaging with members of the community, promoting diversionary activities and carrying out positive education work.

"We hope Saturday’s event will complement this work and promote community spirit by bringing the people of Langley Park and beyond together.”

Some of the activities visitors can enjoy include a climbing wall, a less messy version of paint balling, beat the bobby penalty shootout and a double-decker farm bus.

The venue is being made available free of charge and closes at 3pm
