TRUSTEES of a community group have vowed to keep going despite a lack of finances forcing them to axe salaries and rent.

Crook Community Partnership said they could no longer afford to pay for staff or premises, but the trustees said they remain committed to the town.

Until recently the partnership had employed one person at an office on Hope Street.

David English, a founder member of Crook Community Partnership, said: "A great deal was achieved when the partnership did not have office premises and we will continue to organise and provide support to events in Crook.

“We would like to thank all staff, volunteers and trustees past and present for the valuable contribution they have made."

Crook Community Partnership was founded to support and organise CCTV for the town.

It has since been involved within organising events such as the carnival, fireworks and Christmas celebrations as well as providing advice and guidance for job seekers among other projects.

Dorothy Winter, Chair of Crook Community Partnership said: "We will continue to organise events, and are keen to work with other organisations for the benefit of the town.”

The next event will be the carnival being planned for Saturday, July 5.
