MEMBERS of Durham Young Musicians and others will perform at a charity concert at St Cuthbert’s Church, North Road, Durham, on Saturday, May 17, at 7pm. Proceeds will be split between Christian Aid and Diabetes UK. Tickets, available at the door, are £4 for adults, £3 for concessions and free for school-age children. Refreshments will be available.

There will be stalls, a tombola, raffle, treasure hunt and refreshments. Car washing will be available, priced £4 per vehicle.

MAY FLOWERS: National demonstrator Catherine Gledhill, from Huddersfield, will give a demonstration titled May Flowers May Way at the next meeting of Dunelm Flower Club, to be held at Durham High School for Girls, South Road, Durham, on Thursday, May 15, at 7.30pm. Admission is £5. Guests are welcome. Tea and coffee will be served afterwards.
CRICKET NETS: Brandon Cricket Club has won planning permission to use previously open public space on Brandon Lane, Brandon, near Durham, for cricket practice nets and an extension to the clubhouse.
LEGO MOVIE: The Lego Movie will be screened at the Active Life Centre, Coxhoe, on Saturday, May 10, at 1pm. Children aged 12 and under should be accompanied by an adult. Tickets are £2 each.
BALTIC ZIPSLIDE: Durham-based children’s charity Heel and Toe is looking for people to take part in a sponsored zipslide off the Baltic art gallery, Gateshead, and across the River Tyne on Sunday, July 6. CONSENT REFUSED: Durham County Council planning officials have refused to grant retrospective permission for land previously used for horse stabling at Pit House Lane, Leamside, near Durham, to be used for 18 months for caravans and storage containers.
