A DRIVER was taken to hospital this afternoon (MON) after his car crashed into a lamppost.

The accident happened on the B6312 road between Sacriston and Nettlesworth, near Chester-le-Street shortly before 1pm.

Three fire crews were called to the scene and cut free a male adult who was trapped in the wreckage and he was then taken to hospital by ambulance.
