POLICE are investigating after a youth was assaulted in a park.

Officers were called to Princess Anne Park, in Washington, Wearside, on Friday, April 11, at around 8.30pm, following a report a fight had broken out.

A 16-year-old boy had been assaulted and was left with an injury to his mouth.

A 17-year-old and a 15-year-old have been arrested on suspicion of assault but police are still keen to speak to youths who were in the area at the time or anyone else who may have witnessed the incident.

Meanwhile, police are also investigating a handbag theft in Washington.

A man on a bike stole the handbag from a trolley in the Asda car park at the Galleries shopping centre between 6.15pm and 6.30pm on Tuesday, April 22.

The man is described as white and was wearing work-type clothing, including a high visibility vest.
