FIRE crews have been battling a blaze at a derelict building in the centre of Darlington.
Two crews from Darlington and one from Newton Aycliffe were despatched to tackle the fire in a commerical building near the Odeon cinema on North Road.
A woman who was passing the building in a taxi said flames could be seen inside with thick black smoke being blown across the road.
She said: "The smoke was horrendous coming out of the building."
Fire crews were called shortly after 9.30pm with the fire extinguished within half an hour.
