A COUNCIL is being asked about its gritting procedures following the death of a biker thought to have lost control on an icy patch of road.
Popular County Durham man Melvin Bandtock died on Saturday, December 28 after becoming trapped under a bus.
The keen biker had been riding along Craghead Lane, near Stanley when it is believed he hit an icy patch of road and skidded into the path of an oncoming single decker bus.
An inquest into his death was opened and a review held today (Friday February 22) at the coroner’s court in Crook.
Coroner’s officer Susan Rooney told the review that police were making enquiries with Durham County Council with regards to gritting in the vicinity of the incident.
Reports are expected to be received within a month.
