Catterick hotel destroyed by fire

The Northern Echo: The Bridge House Hotel, Catterick Village The Bridge House Hotel, Catterick Village

THE Bridge House Hotel in Catterick Bridge, North Yorkshire, has been destroyed by fire overnight.

Six fire crews were called to the building, which is undergoing renovation and is not believed to be occupied, after a series of 999 calls reported flames coming from the roof.

Initially, appliances were dispatched from Colburn and Bedale at 11.15pm last night.

These were quickly increased to six appliances including two from Northallerton, one from Leyburn, and an appliance and aerial ladder platform from Darlington.

The incident was finally scaled down just before 3am.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said it is believed that the building, which measures 50m by 30m, has suffered extensive damage.

Appliances from Colburn and Northallerton remain at the scene, with a structural engineer to be scheduled to visit later today.

The cause of the blaze is yet to be determined.

At least they have left your comment alone, I did a similar quote last week and they removed it.

2 miles???

If thats 2 miles I`m 11 foot tall!

If you check next time you do that journey, from the hotel to the sports pavillion its 0.85mile.

Think both you and the Echo are wrong!

If the hotel has to be demolished, it will be a sad day for me, as I used to live there in the late '60s/early '70s when my father was manager there. Even though I was a young boy , the hotel has many memories for me and I will always remember it fondly.

I posted a comment imply'ing some underhand goings on with this fire as it seems odd it get closed for rennovation then mysteriously catches fire.

This post was deleted.....so much for freedom of speech.

like the otter ( wheatside ) on the A68 near west auckland , the roof space went up on that in the early hours of the morning & it was extremely lucky that there were no guests staying at the time .
