THE Mayor of Durham was welcomed as a VIP guest at the opening of a pizza shop in the city the weekend.

Papa John’s invited Councillor Pauline Charlton to enjoy a slice of the Italian dish and cut the ribbon to declare the store officially open.

The outlet hosted a pizza party on Saturday, to mark its official opening, and gave away 200 pizzas to those who visited throughout the day.

The chain has invested £200,000 in the store and created 25 new jobs in the area.

Owner Dan Wilkinson said: “It was an honour to receive the mayor in our store and we really enjoyed celebrating our official opening event with her and our customers, old and new.”
