A TEENAGE kickboxer who fought his way to glory at the world championships last year has been showing the chairwoman of Durham County Council some of his best moves.

Jordan Williams, of Trimdon Colliery, near Sedgefield, won the Muay Thai Championship title at the Unified World Championships in Italy last November.

After reading of his success in The Northern Echo, Durham County Council chairwoman Pauline Charlton was keen to congratulate the 16-year-old and invited him to County Hall in Durham City for a chat.

However, Jordan, who attends East Durham College in Peterlee, also took the opportunity to showcase his skills, which he has been honing since taking up martial arts three years ago.

Coun Charlton said: “It’s fantastic that a young man from County Durham has achieved such heights.

"All credit to his family, his trainer, his sponsors and Jordon himself, who has worked so hard.

“It was a delight to invite him to County Hall and to share his success.".

Jordan's trainer, Steven Wright, of Erawan Thai Boxing in Trimdon Village, said: "Jordon has been a pleasure to work with. The chairwoman has made us all extremely welcome at County Hall.

"I’m pleased Jordon brought along some of his kit so she could see for herself how skilful he is".
