The Northern Echo Darlington Sunday Invitation League: Division One.

AMAZINGLY, considering the appalling week weather, there were three matches completed in the League, including two in Division One.

Hurworth Albion met Haughton WMC and it was the Albion who triumphed in a close match. Goals from Lewis Glancey and man of the match Chris Bellwood were just enough as Haughton WMC could only manage a reply from Chris Rusk as Hurworth gained three much-needed points.

The points earned by Hurworth in their game took on added significance when the bottom two sides, Haughton and Turks Head, met in a game that saw Turks win their first ever points in the First Division emerging 5-2 victors.

Division Two

THE only other game to survive the weather last weekend saw the Hole in the Wall play host to league leaders Highland Laddie, in a match that went ahead thanks to the sterling efforts of the teams themselves.

In a game commended by the referee as "a superb advert for the League" it was Highland Laddie who ran out 3-0 victors to stretch their advantage over Shuttle and Loom at the top of the Division to five points, although the Shuttle have games in hand.
